2007 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Thoroughly revised for 2007. introductionwhen it comes time to fill up the tank, it's not easy to justify a full-size sport utility. But ford also reminds us that fuel prices have simply chased away the people who really shouldn't have been driving a full-size sport-utility in the first place.  the expedition is meant for utility, not profiling. It carries people, hauls gear, tows boats, and pulls campers. To start with, ford's research shows that 92 percent of the expedition owners use their big suv for vacations. Some 60 percent use it to transport outdoor sports gear, while 40 percent of expedition owners use the vehicle's towing capacity. Some 84 percent routinely carry more than three passengers behind the front row of seats.  moreover, ford notes that the place of the sport-utility in american life isn't going to disappear. Sales of personal watercraft have increased 9. 2 percent since 2005, while there will be some 6. 3 million households with tow-able recreational campers by 2010. Finally, three-generation families are becoming a substantial part of the vacation picture, so plenty of passenger seats are a necessity, not just a convenience.  with this in mind, the expedition has been thoroughly revised for 2007 to make it a platform for family-friendly adventures. Every aspect of its utility has been improved: towing capacity, passenger comfort and even driving enjoyment. Meanwhile, a new, extended-wheelbase expedition el adds more cargo-carrying capacity, especially noticeable when trying to load groceries or gear behind the third-row seats.  ford has made the expedition even more family-friendly by substantially reducing its price. Ford tells us that expedition models across the range have been reduced in price by an average of $4300. Just as important, a new warranty extends bumper-to-bumper protection to three years/36,000 miles, while the powertain is covered for five years/60,000 miles. In addition, the warranty is fully transferable to subsequent owners. lineupthe 2007 ford expedition comes in two different sizes, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the new expedition el with its 131-inch wheelbase. Every expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5. 4-liter v-8 that is rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A new, six-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. A class iii trailer hitch is standard.  safety equipment includes front-seat frontal and side-impact air bags, three-row head-protection curtain air bags, anti-lock braking (abs), and electronic stability control with anti-rollover technology.  three trim levels are available: the entry-level xlt, the outdoor-styled eddie bauer, and luxurious limited.  the xlt 29,995) and 4wd xlt 32,895) offer full-size utility at an affordable price. The monochromatic interior features cloth upholstery with front captain's chairs (driver's seat is six-way power adjustable), a 40/20/40 split-bench seat in the second row, and a rear cargo bin. A tilt steering wheel, air conditioning and an am/fm stereo tuner with single-disk cd changer are also part of the package. Exterior standard equipment features 265/70r-17 tires, running boards, roof rails, fog lights, power-adjustable outside mirrors, and a rear liftgate with flip-up glass and a rear defroster/wiper/washer system.  the xlt el 34,445) and xlt el 4wd 37,345) are similarly equipped as the standard wheelbase versions.  the option list for the xlt models includes second-row captain's chairs, a manual- or power-folding, third-row bench seat, rear load-leveling air suspension, and a heavy-duty towing package. Options include a navigation system, a premium am/fm stereo with six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, and a rear-seat dvd entertainment system.  the eddie bauer 36,395) and eddie bauer 4wd 39,295) are trimmed as outdoor adventure vehicles and are distinguished by a longer list of convenience features as standard equipment, notably the expedition's unique third-row seat which folds flat into the cargo floor. Other standard features for the eddie bauer model include leather upholstery with front captain's chairs (driver's seat is 10-way power adjustable), the third-row seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, an am/fm stereo tuner with 6cd changer, and protective cladding for the lower body panels.  the eddie bauer el 39,045) and eddie bauer el 4wd 41,945) are similarly equipped as the standard wheelbase versions.  options for the eddie bauer models include a lengthy list of practical features including a power-folding, third-row bench seat, rear load-leveling air suspension, a heavy-duty towing package, and second-row captain's chairs. Convenience features include a navigation system, sirius satellite radio, and a rear-seat dvd entertainment system.  the limited 37,845) and limited 4wd 40,745) are meant to deliver car-like, highway-friendly sophistication in a sport-utility package. The list of standard equipment resembles that of the eddie bauer model, but the style statement is far grander and the list of convenience features includes elaborate luxury items. Leather upholstery is standard, as are front captain's chairs (driver's seat is 10-way adjustable) with a heating/cooling feature. The power-folding rear bench seat is standard. Exterior upgrades include 255/70r18 tires with chrome-finish wheels, power-adjustable and folding mirrors.  the limited el 40,495) and limited el 4wd 43,395) are similarly equipped as the standard wheelbase versions.  the option list for the eddie bauer and eddie bauer el includes a lengthy list of practical features including a power-folding, third-row bench seat, an electronically powered liftgate, rear load-leveling air suspension, a heavy-duty towing package, and second-row captain's chairs. Convenien. walkaroundthe ford expedition is a truck and, unlike so many other full-size sport-utilities, it doesn't pretend to be anything else. This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability, perhaps a byproduct of the extraordinarily rigorous testing they undergo at ford's brutal truck proving ground in arizona.  both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition are based on the tough, durable components of the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, chassis technology that improves driving precision, ride comfort, and even passenger packaging.  in the past, the expedition hasn't been able to establish much of a visual identity, as ford tried to make the first-generation expedition look like a car and then went to the other extreme with a notably clumsy interpretation of the heavy-duty tractor-trailer look in the second-generation version.  this new third-generation expedition features a three-bar grille, large jewel-like headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. Moreover, there are five different wheel designs, including new 20-inchers with a chrome finish. The expedition doesn't have the style of gm's sport-utilities, but at least it avoids the science-fiction look of the nissan armada and toyota sequoia.  the overall dimensions of the standard expedition are much the same as before, while the new expedition el stretches the standard vehicle's wheelbase by a foot to 131 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds 24 cubic feet of cargo volume, an increase to 130. 8 cubic feet behind the front seats from 108. 3 cubic feet.  both the standard expedition and the expedition el are great big vehicles, measuring more than seventeen feet from nose to tail. As a result, they're not at their best while maneuvering closer to the dry cleaners at a suburban mini-mall. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires 44 feet. They're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs 5578 pounds, while the base 2wd el tips the scales at 5825 pounds. The addition of 4wd adds another 235 pounds to the bottom line.  to be frank, the expedition is the kind of vehicle that comes with running boards as standard equipment, and we're glad it does. interiorthe 2007 expedition has a brand-new interior look. The acres of cheap plastic seen in the previous models, so reminiscent of a rental car, have been replaced by a richer blend of finishes, textures and color. In fact, the overall effect of the fully optioned 2007 expedition limited is the best representation of modern american-style luxury within ford's overall vehicle lineup. Wood, chrome and leather make the expedition an inviting place to spend a day on the road.  this new appreciation for. 2007 buick lucerne review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Superb full-size luxury car. introductionthe buick lucerne is the brand's flagship sedan. Its clean lines are suggestive of fine european imports yet maintain buick traditions. Inside, lucerne is elegant, comfortable and easy. Underway, it's smooth and quiet; but with precise steering and a chassis that handles winding roads with aplomb. We find the lucerne to be a plush, highly competent full-size sedan at a compelling price.  the lucerne cxs is certainly the most enjoyable of the new buicks to drive, thanks to its powerful v8 engine and magnetic ride control, an adaptive sports suspension developed for the corvette. Yet we might opt for the lucerne cxl v6, a very enjoyable car to drive, with agile handling and plenty of performance. The v6-powered lucerne cxl is positioned to compete against the toyota avalon and lexus es 330, while the v8-powered cxs aspires to the lexus gs and infiniti m luxury sedans.  as it has done from time to time throughout its 103-year history, buick is rethinking, renewing, revising and rationalizing its model lineup. The buick lucerne replaced the park avenue and lesabre when launched as a 2006 model. The lucerne benefits greatly from the structure and chassis hardware that it shares with the recently launched cadillac dts. In this, lucerne is not breaking tradition but confirming it. Six-passenger seating is available by ordering the front bench seat 295). A comfort and convenience package 795) adds an electrochromic rearview mirror, universal home remote, illuminated visors with vanity mirrors, intermittent front wipers with rainsense, and body-colored outside mirrors with power adjustment and heat. The driver confidence package 795) includes rear park assist, remote vehicle start and theft alarm.  cxl is available with the v6 28,530) or a 4. 6-liter v8 30,540). Either way, cxl upgrades with leather seats (for five or six passengers), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power passenger's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. The suspension is tuned a little tighter and includes airlift rear shocks for automatic level control. All items from the comfort and convenience package (see above) are also standard. The cxl v8 adds gm's magnasteer magnetic assist steering, with a faster ratio; and firms up suspension damping a little further. To help maintain better control in adverse conditions gm's stabilitrak electronic stability control system is available as an option on the cxl v8 495).  cxs 34,545) comes standard with the v8, 18-inch wheels, stabilitrak, magnasteer, and magnetic ride control for the best handling available in a lucerne. Cxs also has upgraded leather seats with eight-way power and memory for driver and front passenger. The front seatbelts come with pretensioners, so be sure to wear them. Traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a tire pressure monitor are standard on all models. The first-ever application of a dual-depth passenger airbag has two sections; a smaller section deploys in a less severe crash or if the passenger is small or seated nearer the dashboard. In a bad crash or if the passenger is not wearing their seat belt the full bag deploys for maximum effect. walkaroundthere is no mistaking the lucerne for anything but a buick. The lucerne has a handsome appearance with a good stance thanks to its long wheelbase and wide track. The classic buick waterfall grill blends in well with the large integrated headlamps. The side profile, with its steeply raked windshield, is reminiscent of several recently introduced european sedans such as the vw passat and audi a6. The rear of the lucerne features a high trunk line with nicely integrated tail lamps.  chrome trim is kept to a minimum. The only stylistic link to buicks of old is the row of small portholes on each of the front fenders. Flashback to the fifties, when more powerful buicks had more holes. Still, we like them.  two new exterior colors, light quartz metallic and gold mist metallic, are available for '07.  the buick lucerne is built on the same mechanical platform as the cadillac dts, which was also all-new for 2006. Buick engineers shaped the outside of the door mirrors to lessen wind noise. Laboratory test results show that the lucerne is quieter than a lexus es 330. This was also evident in a back-to-back driving comparison. interiormuch like the exterior, the lucerne's interior is cleanly designed with just enough touches of wood and chrome trim to make it luxurious without being opulent. The dashboard is fairly traditional in design with a smallish instrument pod containing three round gauges in front of the steering wheel.  the center stack is located high up for easy access, and contains large knobs for operating the climate control and audio system.    standard on all '07 buicks is onstar with turn-by-turn service, which allows customers to talk to a live advisor, who in turn downloads complete step-by-step directions to the vehicle through the onstar system. Audio directions are then automatically played through the vehicle's stereo as they are needed, triggered by the onstar system's gps capabilities. Most people instead opt for bucket seats, which provide a good level of comfort and come with an armrest in the center console.  rear-seat passengers are well taken care of with good headroom and excellent leg room. The long wheelbase also allows for a wider-opening rear door with almost no intrusion from the wheel well, making it easy to get in and out of the car. driving impressionthe buick lucerne is a smooth but spirited car. The ride quality is excellent, thanks to its long wheelbase and stiff body structure. In back-to-back driving along a stretch of less-than-perfect road, we found the lucerne's ride quality comparable to that of the benchmark toyota avalon. Buick loyalists who are used to a cushy ride will not complain about the lucerne. It might be stiffer than they are used to, but it's still plenty smooth.  the steering is precise and responsive, and the suspension is well controlled, even at high speeds along not always smooth roads. A rigid chassis is the key to balancing sharp handling with a smooth ride, and lucerne really delivers.  the cxs comes with magnetic ride control, which we found improved the handling a bit, though the differences were not dramatic. Magnetic ride control is an adaptive damping system designed to enhance overall ride performance. With magnetic ride control, the shock absorbers are filled with a synthetic fluid in which magnetically charged particles are suspended. By applying electric current to the particles, a computer continuously adjusts the fluid's viscosity according to varying road surfaces and driving styles. The system, which first appeared on the sporty cadillac xlr, and then the corvette, delivers a quicker response than earlier adaptive-damping setups that continuously adjusted the shock absorbers' main valves.  indeed, when we tried a cxl v6, we were pleasantly surprised at just how well it performed. With the lighter v6, the lucerne seemed more agile on twisty roads. The front end felt a bit lighter. The v6 models also suffer less from torque steer, a slight tugging felt through the steering wheel when turning and accelerating at the same time. As an additional benefit the v6 lucerne is rated as a super ultra l.

2007 honda cr-v review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New and improved for 2007. introductionthe new, 2007 honda cr-v is more powerful, more stylish and more comfortable than the previous-generation 2006 models. The latter comes trimmed in leather and can be fitted with an optional navigation system that incorporates a rearview video camera for safe and easy backing. The transmission is a new, five-speed automatic. Real time all-wheel drive is offered on all three models. Epa rates the front-wheel drive cr-v at 23/30 city/highway miles per gallon and the all-wheel drive at 22/28.  inside, compared with the 2006 cr-v, there's slightly more room in the front seat and slightly less room in the rear seat, except hiproom, which is up by about an inch. There's also marginally more cargo room. Everything by way of instruments, controls and storage is, respectively, logically arrayed, properly placed and reasonably plentiful.  in terms of safety, the new cr-v is fully featured. In addition to the required three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions and front seat airbags, people protection includes front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear seat side air curtains with roll-over sensors and front seat active head restraints (which work to reduce whiplash in rear impacts). For crash avoidance, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and vehicle stability assist with traction control are all standard.  as for how the '07 cr-v stacks up against the competition, well, in a number of ways, it could do better. The mazda cx-7, which seats five, is more fun to drive and to look at. There's one engine, a 166-horsepower inline-4, and one transmission, a five-speed automatic. Gps-based navigation system with voice recognition and rearview camera 2000) is optional on the ex-l.  honda-approved accessories available from dealers (installation price set by dealers) include wheel locks 54); attachments/racks for bicycle 128), kayak 160), skis 139) and surfboard 75); roof box 299); auto-dim inside mirror with compass 225); amplified bass speaker system 315); and backup sensors 259).  safety features that come standard include the required three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions, front airbags and child safety seat anchors (latch), front seat-mounted side airbags (to minimize upper body injuries in side impacts); roof-mounted, front and rear seat side air curtains (to minimize head injuries in side impacts and rollovers); and front-seat active head restraints (to minimize neck injuries in rear impacts).  for crash avoidance there are antilock brakes (which let the driver steer during panic stops); electronic brake-force distribution (which optimize brake application during emergency stops); brake assist (which senses impending emergency brake application and boosts pedal pressure); vehicle stability assist (honda's electronic stability control system that attempts to minimize skidding in turns); and tire pressure monitors (which warn of dangerous drops in tire pressure). walkaroundboxy is out. Well, maybe not svelte. We're talking suvs, here. And honda, ever the quick learner, has responded with the fully re-styled, 2007 cr-v.  head on, the 2007's low, jutting jaw-like front bumper and skid-plate look pull its visual mass downwards, reducing its perceived height. Large, sharply angled headlight housings crowd the upper grille and bleed down into the lower air intake. Stout fender flares stretch out to wrap tightly around the tires, giving the new cr-v a sturdy, planted stance.  the side aspect shows most clearly the '07's departure from the boxy, mini-suv look. Starting from the gently rounded hood, the relatively fast windshield flows into a roofline that drops ever so slightly as it passes over the sharply tapered glasshouse, ending at the tailgate's top edge, which itself is pulled forward to a point almost directly above the rear wheel well. A strong character line runs from the top of the front wheel well back beneath the full-round door handles to bifurcate the side marker lens of the rear taillight. To us, it looks a little like the mercedes-benz r-class in the overall outline.  the rear view presents more of the classic suv look, with a trapezoidal backlight bookended by the trademark cr-v taillights and atop a fairly tall and relatively broad, high-relief tailgate panel. The oversize license plate recess will accommodate almost any country's registration telltale. A repeat of the front end's skid plate look masks the rear bumper mass and draws the eye to tires pushed out to the edges of the cr-v's side panels. interiorthe interior of the new honda cr-v focuses on function with a bit of style tossed in to make things interesting. Everything is in its place for the most part, and everything feels the way it should. Quality of materials and fit and finish overall live up to honda's standards; some trim pieces, however, showed traces of flash, those little flat bits of plastic left over from the seams of the original molds.  the grippy, waffle-textured, fabric upholstery feels durable. The ex-l's optional leather upholstery is, obviously, richer looking and likely more durable, but no more comfortable. The front seats have slightly taller and marginally wider backs than their '06 counterparts, but are still short on thigh support. To the limited extent the new cr-v lends itself to sporty driving, the seatbacks' side bolsters do an adequate job of keeping occupants' upper bodies in place. Not so the seat bottom's bolsters, those being clearly shaped more for ease of entry and exit than for restraining occupants' posteriors. There is, however, a most welcome dead pedal against which drivers may brace a left leg as necessary and appropriate. Nice touch, as is the replacement of the right-hinged tailgate, which is on the wrong side for curbside unloading at u. Airports, with a top-hinged liftgate.  dashboard and instrument cluster are classic honda, as in, friendly to eye and hand, with the only mildly discordant note the placement of the shift lever, sprouting from a pod suspended from the center of the dash. While neither as ergonomic as a floor-mounted lever nor as natural, in an archaic sort of way, as one mounted on the steering column, it is consistent with the emphasis on flexibility in the front seat area. In the lx and ex, the space between the front seats that might otherwise host a console and floor-mounted shift lever is dedicated to a unique, multi-use tray that when not needed folds down against the side of the passenger seat, opening a walk-through access to the rear seat. To house the six-cd changer that the optional nav system displaces from the dash, the ex-l gets a more traditional, fixed center console, with cup holders and additional storage.  most drivers will find their six-way adjustable seat and two-way adjustable steering give them the best of all worlds: a comfortable posture without compromising outward visibility. A low cowl keeps the edges of the hood in view. Rearward vision, however, sets no new standard and actually suffers some from the awkwardly shaped c-pillars. The rearview video cam that comes with the optional nav system help. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Changer✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Navigation System
